Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:4-5
4Don’t let people waste time in endless speculation over myths and spiritual pedigrees. For these things only cause arguments; they don’t help people live a life of faith in God. 5 The purpose of my instruction is that all the Christians there would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and sincere faith.
Observation: Don’t get hung up on and argue about so many details. Instead understand this: Jesus Christ is all about love and true faith.
Application: There are a lot of facts and figures in the Bible. Sometimes it is easy to get confused and caught up in remembering and understanding every detail.
Here Paul tells us to focus on Christ’s love and not let the rest lead us into arguments. These are the words of God. I believe he wants us to read the rest, but focus in on the forgiveness of Christ and the fullness of his love. Then the rest will fall into place as it should.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being a loving, forgiving God. Thank you for sending your son as perfect love. Please guide those who argue and are frustrated about details to stop, soak in your love, and then decide where to go next.
Guide those who are reading through the Bible and stop because of all the unfamiliar names and places. Let them see your love and be flooded with it so that they will focus on that while they try to grasp the rest. Guide them (and me) in seeing what is central, building a solid foundation of faith and love and then allowing the rest to fall in place as you would have it.
Thank you, again, Lord for your never-ending love, forgiveness and support.
