Scripture: Zechariah 7:5
“Ask all the people of the land and the priests, “When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?
Observation: When you said you were doing those things for me, were your actions really for me, or for some other reason? What are your true motives in what you do?
Application: It is important to stop and think about the things we are doing to honor our Father. In doing them, are we honoring him or are we just going through the motions? And if we are just going through the motions, then are we honoring Him at all? Why do we do what we do? Who is our true audience?
Prayer: Lord, I want my actions and thoughts to honor you. I don’t want to do things to please others that are not honoring you first. And I don’t want to go through the motions of something that could be honoring to you without truly honoring you.
Please show me where I might be making this mistake. And guide me in evaluating why I do the things I do so I can cut out what is not honoring, and be sure I’m not just going through the motions on others.
Thank you, Lord, for your help.
