Oh, the irony of this verse being today’s after SOAPing yesterday’s about rejoicing in every day. And now we read that each day has its own trouble?!
Quite honestly, though, I do think the two go well together when you think about it.
Let’s jump in.
Scripture:
Don’t worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble its own.
-Matthew 6:34
Observation:
What I hear here is that I should not let the unknowing part and possibility of negativity in the future get me down. Bad stuff might happen. Bad stuff will happen. I need to know that. But each day is to be taken on its own.
Application:
Understanding all of that means understanding that each day can be managed. No need to worry about days in the future, just handle each day by day. I don’t think this is saying that planning or goal-setting is bad– just that we shouldn’t get wrapped up in worry. Focus on what we CAN do NOW and, well, do it. The stuff we cannot control we should let go and be okay with that. And, as yesterday told us, rejoice in it as best we can.
Prayer:
Father God,
You know there is a whole lot of stuff up in the air. Several things could go in several directions resulting in some big changes on all sorts of fronts. I feel so much promise for this year, and yet , I’ll admit it, worry, too. (And you know of many more variables and situations to come that I don’t even have a clue about, yet, too!)
I think what you are saying here is to keep the course, keep moving forward, but don’t worry about the outcomes of anything. Whichever way they go, you’ve got ’em and you’ve got me. Worrying about them isn’t going to change things, or even help me understand which outcomes are truly the best. I should just do what I can today, taking one step forward at a time in faith.
Alright. I’m in.
Thank you, Father, for this encouragement that tomorrow WILL take care of itself. Please guide me in following your path.
A few things to think about…
What’s worrying you?
What can you do about it?
What is beyond your control?
And what should you do in recognizing that?
Happy New Year, sweet reader!
Thanks for joining me today. Now that I’ve thought about it and prayed about it, I think this verse is a fantastic one for going into a new year! I’m glad you’re right here with me. :)
Cheers!
