Scripture: Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing,
but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses
Observation: Giving to the poor will not cause you to go without your needs. However ignoring those in need will cause trouble for you.
Application: This is not from The Power of a Praying Wife. Today I certainly found many applications for prayer in the chapter, but I didn’t hear a specific Bible verse to share here. Instead, my eyes caught this one while looking up another… and it stayed with me for a few hours. So here we are:
The Bible is clear that those who are able should give to those in need… and that those who are able include almost every one of us. If we choose to hear the call to share and give, our needs will also be met. But if we ignore that call, our punishment will be severe. The Lord wants us to share and to look out for others as we would hope to be looked after should the need arise.
Prayer: Lord, if I am not giving enough or not giving in area you think I should, please make it clear. I want to do my part in helping those around me… near and far. I want to be your hands and feet. I want to serve those around me appropriately. And please, Lord, forgive me when I behave in a way that is not honoring to you when it comes to the poor. Sometimes I am embarrassed and uncomfortable and I do not want to be that way.
Please forgive me when I am not as generous as you would desire. When that is the case, change my heart and show me your path for me. You have blessed me in so many ways… guide me in sharing those blessings in ways that would honor you and show your love. Thank you for selecting a generous man as my husband. Guide us to be generous together in the ways you intend.
