SOAP: I should work to please God, not people

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 1:4 (partial)

…Our purpose is to please God, not people. He is the one who examines the motives of our hearts.

Observation: I should work to honor God, not people. Only God can truly understand my motives. And my motives should be to please him alone.

Application: Too often I find myself working to please those around me. I am such a people pleaser. I want everyone to like me and be pleased with me.

But, rather than work so hard at pleasing people, I really should make it my constant goal to please the Lord.

Every step I take should be held up to God, not men. He is the one whose opinion matters most. And yet I so often think of men first.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be aware of my motivation for doing the things I do.

Guide me in being true to you and true to myself by acting in ways that would be honoring to you.

Guide me so that my blog, and all my other actions, might be honoring to you. I want my words to be words you want me to share and not words shared to gain readers. You will allow me to reach who you want me to reach if I just listen to you. Thank you for the ways you are using me. Please forgive me when I lose my focus.

Keep me on your path alone, Lord.

And again, thank you for your guidance.

  1. this past week a preacher I heard prayed this at the beginning of his sermon
“Lord may anything I say be forgotten as quickly as possible. May anything YOU say through me be remembered and may it grow”

gotta love that kind of humility !
