Scripture:
Galatians 3: 19
Well then, why was the law given? It was given to show people how guilty that are. But this system of law was to last only until the coming of the child to whom God’s promise was made. And there is this further difference. God gave his laws to angels to give to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people.
Galatians 3: 24
Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian and teacher to lead us until Christ came. So now, through faith in Christ, we are made right with God.
Observation: The law was given to guide people, teaching them how to live. It was also established to so we could better understand the gift of the sacrifice.
Application: This whole chapter of Galatians was perfect for me for this week.
If you’ve been reading my posts this week, you know I’ve had a few questions about the law lately.
I think I understood most of the passage from today already, but was confused as to what we should do with the law now. I think I’m learning that I was allowing myself to get worked up about something I didn’t need to, and slipping into my own legalistic tendencies.
The law shows His love for us. It just further illustrates how much we need Jesus. Without him, we are in serious trouble… there’s just no way around it.
And as perfect as we think we might be (even in some areas… as I was shown by my stupid speeding ticket a few weeks back. And I thought I was such a goody-goody. Yeah. NOT PERFECT. Following the rules most of the time does not equate to following the rules all of the time. Sorry, thanks for hanging in through my rant. This was a lesson I learned and am still irritated with myself.), we still are not perfect. We cannot be. Only He is.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your unending, undying, all-encompassing love. And thanks for allowing me to work through all of this these past few days. Thank you for establishing your law. And sending your son to fulfill it. And thank you for guiding me through an understanding of what it all means in the big picture. I can only imagine what I’ll learn about it as relating to the really big picture.
