Scripture: Luke 9: 45
But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
Observation: Jesus was telling the disciples about his upcoming betrayal, although He did not reveal the whole picture to them at this time. Because he didn’t reveal the whole plan of events to come with them, they were puzzled. But this was all in God’s plan.
Application: Perhaps God knew that if the disciples knew what was to come, they would attempt to change the tortuous death Jesus would soon face. This was not part of God’s plan. He knew what needed to happen to atone for all the sins of the world. And the disciples could never fully comprehend what needed to happen.
So often I wonder why bad things happen. We live in a fallen world. And faith in Jesus Christ is the only thing that will make it all better in the end. So through the storms, trials and tribulations, it is not our job to figure everything out. It is our job to listen to God, pray to Him and act as he directs.
Prayer: Lord, only you know the master plan. Please, Lord, guide those facing trials right now and those facing trials to come: Draw them closer to you so they will gain the strength they need through you alone. Let that strength be undeniable. Give them insight to not try to understand and second-guess you, and give them peace in following your guidance.
