As I continue in my reading of Ephesians, I have to admit I’m being blown away by how truly meaty it is. There is so much to take in and ponder.
These three verses were the 2 following yesterday’s reading:
There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. – Ephesians 4:4-6
There is so much in just those three verses. Right now I’m focusing on the last part… who is over all and through all and in all. His Holy Spirit unites us all, or at lease it can unite us all. Yesterday’s passage ended in this: “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
That bond and that unity are important to remember. We can all work together, as God designed, or we can tear each other apart, which was not as God designed. All humans have the capacity to claim His Spirit with them, to be joined in this unity.
Do you think anyone is going to claim that Spirit that by force? Or out of fear? Or do you think that Spirit is realized and accepted out of love?
My bet is that it is realized and accepted out of love, as Jesus showed us to show it. He didn’t threaten. He didn’t scare.
He showed love and peace. Even in his resistance, he was peaceful and loving.
