About 10 years ago I had the idea to build a wine recommendation engine for regular people, not wine aficionados. I was on a trip to Napa with my husband and two other couples and I wondered if there might be an easier way I could find wines I liked. It seemed the scores and medals didn’t really guide me all that well.
It kept bugging me, so I got to work on it. I explored different ways to analyze wines for flavor data, working with wine makers, winery owners and sensory scientists from Cornell University.
I pulled in an applied mathematician to build the machine learning aspect with that data and to be sure we were collecting data that would be consistent and effective.
The journey has taken me down all sorts of paths quite literally all over the world.
Sometimes I think my mom (and perhaps a few Facebook friends) just think I travel to gorgeous places (pre-COVID, of course) to enjoy wine and meet people. I promise there is more to it than that.
Join me for a virtual tasting next week!
So, for my mom, and anyone else who may be curious as to just WHAT it is I am doing, I would like to invite you to register and join me for a virtual wine tasting with the Dallas chapter of Women for WineSense next Tuesday evening, June 8. (Registration closes Saturday morning, so HOP TO IT and register now!)
There are three ways you can participate in the virtual tasting:
- If you are in the Dallas area, you can register to receive a tasting kit to enjoy with the event.
- If you aren’t in the Dallas area and are super quick, you can register and then visit the Fox Run Vineyards website and order a bottle of the Kaiser Chardonnay and the Lemberger to enjoy at your home during the tasting.
- You can also just enjoy the discussion and play with the wine recommendation tool I created during the event, and THEN order wine, based on what wines are suggested for you. (You’ll still need to register to attend.)
What will we be doing?
I’m pumped to get to share the interactive menu that my business created for Fox Run with you… and also talk about the wines and the process in building our analysis methodology with Fox Run winemaker (and banjo-player) Peter Bell.
I’m also eager to hear what you have to say about the menu and my long, LONG journey.
Registration without the tasting kit is just $5. I have no doubt it will be a lot of fun. We’ll even throw in some general wine enjoyment and serving tips.
You can learn more and register on the Women for WineSense site.
Hurry– registration closes Saturday morning. You won’t want to miss this!
In Love,
