Week 20 of Bible 180– Wrapping up the Old Testament!!!

Weekly Update, take 2!

Whew! Yesterday morning sure gave me a start when I popped online to work on the reading schedule bookmark, post it for you and then start my day in the Word! I was unable to access anything on any of my Google accounts (business or personal) and, well, that was NOT joyful.

Fortunately, I already had a grace day planned for this week, so I hope you were cool rolling with the quick change.

Last week’s reading was, again, tough for me…. except for Daniel. I looooooved reading Daniel. I hated how poorly he was treated by people at times, but I love how his reliance on God always came through for him. I also loved his example of praying.

Check out this passage from Daniel 2:20-23:

Praise be to the name of God forever and ever.
Wisdom and power are His.
He changes times and sets seasons;
He sets up kings and deposes them.
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
He reveals deep and hidden things,
He knows what lies in darkness
and light dwells within him.
I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers.
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we have asked of you.
You have made known to us the dreams of the King.

Daniel sure makes it clear who is in charge and from where his wisdom comes. There is no mistaking that Daniel gives all credit to our Father and wants God to know that he recognizes His power and provision.

What a glorious example for us to follow!

His name IS to be praised forever and ever!

He does great and glorious things– even the seemingly tiny things are great and glorious… and for all of those I am thankful.

He has brought us together right here, time and time again, to read His Word and encourage one another. He has given us the ability to access His Word so easily every single day, to dive in deeper as we desire, and that, my friends, in itself, is such a beautiful thing.

I love that He pulls us close, that He makes it so easy to learn about Him and for us to access Him.

Thank you, Father, for your Word, for your mercy, for the stories that show you to me over and over and over again. And thank you for the privilege of reading your Word with others. That is pretty awesome. I love how you designed us to be in community and how you provide community in so many ways, even now as we are physically separated.

Thank you, Father.

And thank you to you, sweet reader and internet friend, for being in community with me, for strengthening me as we grow closer to Him, as we spur each other on in our reading together.

Wrapping up the Old Testament

This week, if you are on track, we wrap up the Old Testament together on Sunday. Monday, just in time for Christmas week, we will begin reading of our coming Savior. How cool is that?

Invite your friends and family to join us in reading the New Testament.

On Monday, we start with Matthew and then spend just 40 days reading all of the New Testament together. So many people pop into the Bible in December with Advent readings and then fizzle out after Christmas.

Let’s stop that fizzle out and pull them into a daily habit that lasts!

Invite your friends to join us in reading the New Testament, all of it, this coming Monday and continue reading His Word into January. Reading the New Testament in 40 days is a great way to establish a Bible reading habit.

Before the New Testament, though, let’s wrap up the Old Testament.

Bible 180 Week 20 Reading schedule

Thank you for your patience and grace yesterday. I hope posting today doesn’t set you off track too much. I am glad you are here. I am glad you are reading with me. And I’d love to know how you are doing.

Please drop a note to check in and let us know you are here with us and how you feel about wrapping up the Old Testament this week, or how you feel about staying in the Word, daily, for these past 19 weeks.

Again, I am so thankful for you.

In love,

  1. I loved reading the book of Daniel. A welcome change after Ezekiel. Another passage from Daniel that I love is 3:39-41. But with contrite heart and humble spirit let us be received: As though it were burnt offerings of rams and bulls, or tens of thousands of fat lambs, so let our sacrifice be in your presence today and find favor before you; for those who trust in you cannot be put to shame. And now we follow you with our whole heart, we fear you and we seek your face.
This is just what we are called to do, humbly and with a contrite heart go before God trusting him and seeking his presence.
I’m excited to be starting the New Testament right before Christmas, perfect timing!

    1. This is beautiful, Milly. Thank you for sharing that verse—- I think I might write it down to reflect on it as I start my day. It’s a beautiful and honoring and true.
I’m so thankful you are with us.
      Merry Christmas!

  2. God prevails! Even the newest of new technology doesn’t faze God! He always is in the business of getting His business done.
I love the stories of God prevailing in the book of Daniel. Not being swayed by life, royalty, or customs; Daniel stood firm in the face of great danger. Daniel survived without any harm and God prevailed. Then God prevails in the book in of Amos. He is punishment and justice. He gives us a day (of sorts) (still working on understanding all of this); The Day of The Lord!
I love the story that despite what or who we are God works out his goodness in our lives. Have a very Merry Christmas. Count your blessings! Share the love of Christ! Because we know that faith, hope and love remain but Love is the greatest!

    1. Merry Christmas to you and YES, I absolutely agree. Daniel is still so very relevant and inspiring today… all of these stories are. He does prevail… and He always will.
Thanks for reading with us… and for sharing your thoughts. ❤️
