Will you help me help Haiti and do some helping yourself?

Yesterday I took my Danish daughter to the airport so she could go on a quick vacation. After leaving her gate, my younger daughter and I saw some adorable doggies accompanied by some women. We walked over and asked if we could meet and pet the dogs.

My daughter didn’t realize that she was meeting four-legged heroes with their human hero owners.

The dogs were on their way to Haiti to search and rescue whomever they can find.

Gulp.

And I got to go back to my perfectly sturdy home, make dinner in my fully equipped kitchen, using as much water I as I wanted and then tucked all of my children (except the one on vacation) into their cozy beds.

Gulp.

That’s not how it is going to be in Haiti tonight. Or any night for a very, very, very long time. Haiti was already engulfed by poverty. And now the earthquake has stolen more lives and more homes and more needed food, shelter and supplies.

The people of Haiti need my help and yours, but this cannot be a surprise to you.

Crystal at Money Saving Mom has invited bloggers to unite and contribute to whichever organization they choose to help those in Haiti. She has asked us to share how we plan to contribute and then invited readers to link to our posts saying how they will help.

She and her husband intend to contribute $10 per blog linked via the Linky on her site toward Compassion’s relief efforts. (You can read her post and link up there, too, beginning at 7 a.m. CST Friday.)

My husband and I will contribute a base of $500 toward the American Red Cross’s relief efforts. And for each blogger who posts on her own site and links back to this post on MomsToolbox.com via the MckLinky below, we will also contribute $10 towards Compassion International’s relief efforts, up to a $1,000 total contribution between the two.

But please don’t stop there.

Please join us in prayer for healing, comfort, peace, grace, and God’s love to envelope those hurting from the devastation. Pray however you are lead. Pray every time you reach for or think of something that those in Haiti may have lost. And please pray with faith because our God is a big, strong God who can work miracles.

So, can you join us? Every dollar counts. Make your own contribution and then grow ours.

If you are looking for other ways to help, swing by the links as they get added to see what others are doing. Then join in.

PS: You can text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross relief for Haiti right away. How easy is that!

  3. I’ve been praying ever since I learned what happened in Haiti, but wasn’t sure how to contribute.

Now I’m ready to move on an idea had a while back. I’ve been saving all our family’s nut cans for ages. Now I have a huge box of them. I’m going to print up some labels for them saying ” We CAN Help Haiti and CHANGE the outcome!” Then my children and I will give them out to everyone we know,( keeping a list for weekly pick up).

In this economy, lots of people don’t feel they can afford to help much financially, but nearly all of us have coins that weigh down our purses and pockets, that could be doing some good for people in much more difficult circumstances than we are in, here in the U.S. There’s never been a better moment to Love Thy Neighbor!

  6. I’ve got some Haiti earthquake tragedy news to share. God, this has been a terrible disater. I’d been keeping an eye on what’s been going on because I had family there. Since the 13th, I’d been waiting to hear when the aid and relief I knew we could offer would be released and given to the Haitian community to treat the Haiti native people and tourists there. To keep other people informed because I was lacking a good source of information rather than the same videos of reporters and 30 second videos on CNN and my local news I built a website from the ground up for it and got it fully working yesterday. For more details on the tragedy please just follow the URL attached to my comment. This really has been a tragedy in Haiti and those that want or need to know more should check it out. I’ve listed some resources whereby people can donate as well. God bless and please keep the people in Haiti in your prayers and hope for their survival or do more than hope, help them.

  35. We donated to the US fund for UNICEF and also to a local (Kentucky)-based charity called Ten Kids whose goal is to provide a safe home, education, etc. to Ten Kids http://www.tenkids.org/. I like the idea of giving to an organization meeting general needs of the people of Haiti and to one meeting the needs of specific children. We are so blessed–I can’t imagine the losses of the Haitian people.
